Get Horse Slaughterhouses to stop killing foals and pregnant mares
Get Horse Slaughterhouses to stop killing foals and pregnant mares
The Issue
Horses- the animal that we used to use to deliver mail, and still today we use them for entertainment, horseback riding, agriculture, and many people keep horses as pets. Yet, more than 100,000 horses every year are sent to slaughterhouses and used to make meat to be sold in France, Italy, Belgium, and Japan, to name a few. They use young foals who have not even lived a proper life yet, and they also use blind horses, disabled horses, riding school horses, even once a Kentucky Derby horse who failed in the breeding shed. Some people do not know that there are programs to help pay for humane euthanasia for horses (and other animals as well), so they give their horses to slaughterhouses. Sending a horse to a slaughterhouse is the greediest way to get rid of a horse- you are only helping the people running the slaughterhouse to earn money. Horses are transported in scorching heat or freezing cold, and they are dragged and whipped into trucks meant for cattle, meaning the horses are injured on their heads, necks, and legs. Slaughterhouse truck workers cram as many possible horses into these trucks- leading to more injuries by fights between horses, foals being stepped on by larger horses, and possible death. Horses are killed in slaughterhouses by something called a "puntilla knife". They are stabbed many times, severing their spinal cords, which leaves them paralyzed and unable to breathe.
The people most likely able to stop this is the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the United States Department of Agriculture, the United States Supreme Court, and possibly even the president himself.
Thank you for reading this far! I hope you decide to support me and the others wanting to stop horse slaughter. Goodbye!
