The Issue
This petition is for NASA or some branch of the government to buy back the Apollo tapes! They are a part of our history and legacy and something that has been so fundamental to our character as Americans, they belong for all to see and be preserved for future generations!
They were found in a collection by a former NASA intern and sold at Sotheby's for 1.8 million dollars. They are only remaining first generation copy and should be saved for all citizens, not just private collectors.
$1.8 million is a fraction of NASA's daily budget and even if it costs twice that to recover the tapes, they belong in a museum!
