This dangerous intersection is very dark with many accidents and fatalities to date.  The casualty that finally said “ENOUGH” happened  this past Sunday 8:30pm where a 17yr old boy named Mikeal Steele’s life was cut short due to him being hit by a man under the influence. The man was heading west on 301 turning into 42nd ave rd e. where he lives and Mikeal was heading east on 301 n. when the man didn’t see him and struck him.  This is not the first time and it won’t be the last if nothing is done about this intersection.  First of all, it is so dark in the evening and second there’s nothing stopping the flow of traffic from Ellenton Gillette Rd. all the way to I75 so you could only imagine the speed.  Coming out of either cross street north and south which is 42nd ave rd e. and Tidevue Estates, which are neighborhoods, seems almost impossible or very close calls every time.  We also have a bank, a restaurant, a nail salon and the Manatee County Tax Collectors Office all at that intersection that require U turns there to get into their entrances, so think about the traffic and the confusion all of these businesses generate alone.  If you watched the news channels this past week you will see the attention and impact this accident is getting due to the nature of it and possibly ways that it could have been avoided.  I would like to start a petition in the name of Mikeal Steele and have this signal in honor of his life and legacy and hopefully save many lives here where his was cut short.  Thank you so much and God Bless.
