On April 10th, 2020 my grandma passed away due to COVID-19. Before she was admitted to the hospital she was a patient at Bensonhurst Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare. Throughout her stay unfortunately for the most part we only saw her starting to digress. The rehab never kept in touch with us and my mom let alone my grandpa we had to call every day multiple times finally yesterday she called and one of the ladies told us she was having trouble breathing not to mention the other day she was told she had a 5-inch bedsore and that she doesn’t eat ... no one called to tell us about until we asked and my mother had to tell them to put her on iv to give her some kind of nourishment. My mom told them we wanted her admitted to the hospital where we got a call saying she was positive for COVID-19. She was worse then I’ve ever seen her in my life.

During her stay, she became confused and disoriented, upon writing a review on their Facebook page it came to my attention that there were many other families whose loved one went in completely coherent and then became completely disoriented, delusional and confused during their stay. Another common problem I became aware of that seemed to raise an eyebrow to me was that after the lockdown due to COVID-19 began facetime calls were being made available to schedule and right before a serious issue arose with a patient their family would stop receiving calls. My family and I were promised facetime calls after consistently bothering them to talk to my grandmother and find out how she is doing. The lady who we spoke to told us Sundays we would get a call and they did happen... around 3 times after that we were completely left in the dark, it just so happened that we stopped getting calls around one week prior to my mom being told my grandma had developed bedsore, is having trouble breathing, and is not eating. My mom, as well as many other worried family members of patients, called the rehab to find out if there were any cause for concern about the virus and were told either they couldn't discuss it (due to HIPAA), there were no cases or no answer at all! ABC NEWS JUST RELEASED A REPORT WERE THEY STATE 34 CORONA VIRUS RELATED DEATHS OCCURRED AT BENSONHURST REHAB!

This facility neglects many over our loved ones and they cannot go unpunished! There are many negative reviews up on their Facebook page as well as google involving the death of many loved ones who went in for help with a minor issue. A majority of the good reviews are from those who made it out of the facility ALIVE and are back to their normal lives! I hope more people come forward after seeing this and we can put a stop to this and get justice for those who have passed and those still being treated in the facility.
