Shut Down Roer's Zoofari (Reston Zoo)!
The Issue
Help Close Roer's Zoofari (Reston Zoo)
For many years Roer's Zoofari, located in Reston, VA, has been reported for the mistreatment of their animals. They have also been cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violating the Animal Welfare Act. We cannot allow this inhumane treatment of animals to last any longer.
2021 - Two Giraffes, "Waffles" and his new companion, were killed due to a barn fire at the zoo.
2014 - Two porcupines were reported to have been found dead. One death was due to prolonged exposure to the cold outdoor weather. The second death was due to staff neglecting an order from a veterinarian that stated the baby porcupine needed immediate care.
2012 - A spider monkey was euthanized after staff failed to give proper treatment or contact a veterinarian for injuries caused by frostbite.
2012 - A wallaby was was founded drowned in a bucket at the zoo. The zoo director at the time was then convicted of animal cruelty.
2011-2014 - Multiple animals have been reported having inadequate shelter and long lasting illnesses including eye/skin irritation and lameness which staff have neglected and failed to communicate with a veterinarian until many weeks later.
This mistreatment is unacceptable and cannot continue. We ask Roer's Zoofari to be officially shut down and these animals taken to a safe sanctuary.
