The Amazon rainforest has been fire-resistant for much of its history because of its natural moisture and humidity but severe drought, excessive deforestation for farming and ranching and other climate related human activities are causing the wildfires to monstrous magnitude as we witness today. According to US Space agency NASA “The intensity and frequency of droughts in turn, have been linked with increases in regional deforestation and anthropogenic climate change.”

Climate change perse is a natural trend of the earth's geological and geographical cycle. The speed at which current trend is proceeding however, is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented over decades to millennia. Human induced climate change have managed to put the planet in an extremely perilous situation and in turn, our very own existence. And most likely, we're not going to learn anything out of the amazon wildfire until its probably too late. The little importance of news coverage on the disaster and the indifferences of world leaders is a case in point.

Till all the land is destroyed, till all the rivers is poisoned, till the air is unbreathable, till all the animals and insects are killed, and till the last tree is cut, then only will we realize that we cannot eat money.

Something for you to think about: What is your legacy that you want to leave to your children and grand children when you're gone? How do you want them to remember as they stand on a barren land, devoid of drinkable water or even a shade of tree to protect them from the scorching heat of the burning sun? As the land underneath their feet cracks and cries for drops of rain, your children will be thankful to you for what you've done to the planet. That's the legacy you're going to leave and that's how they'll remember you. That's how we will all be remembered. Unless you and I and everyone of us act. NOW.

The Amazon, considered the lungs of the earth, is dying. And so are we.

Let us save the Amazon to save ourselves.
