The Nigerian youths took to the streets on a peaceful protest calling for the disbandment of the unit within the police force- Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) because of the unlawful extortion, harassment and killing of Nigeria youths from preconceived stereotypes.In terms of international law, the rights to freedom of association, peaceful assembly and expression are recognized in various treaties, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Together, these rights constitute the right to protest.

To think that the Nigerian Government under the leadership of Muhammadu Buhari would dispatch the Nigeria Army with firearms and live ammunitions to shoot and kill at innocent protesters gathered to demand reforms to bring an end to police brutality and better governance is callus and unacceptable.

As at today, there is now a military takeover and many protesters have been wounded and murdered.

This is a call to the international community to speak up on this issue as innocent Nigerians massacred in cold blood even while holding the Nation’s flag.

There must be an end to this bloodshed and impending doom looming over Nigeria.
