I Saharawi stanno aspettando da 30 anni un referendum per esercitare il loro diritto ad autodeterminarsi.

I tempi sono maturi per pensare ad una nuova strategia per il Sahara Occidentale che è già scritta nella Carta dell’ONU. La nuova soluzione potenzialmente potrebbe consistere nello spostare la questione Sahara Occidentale dal Capitolo VI "soluzione pacifica delle controversie" al Capitolo VII "azioni coercitive in caso di accertamento di una minaccia alla pace, di una violazione della pace o di un atto di aggressione".

The people of Saharawi are waiting for 30 years for a referendum that would enable them to exercise their right to self-determination.

The time is now right to rethink a new road map for the Western Sahara that is written in the Charter of the United Nations. The new solution could potentially be found by shifting the Western Sahara issue from Chapter VI (six) "pacific settlement of disputes" to chapter VII (seven) "action with respect to the threats to the peace, breaches of the peace, and acts of aggression".
