Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are areas designated to protecting marine ecosystems, processes, habitats, and species, which can contribute to the restoration and replenishment of resources for social, economic, and cultural enrichment (WWF, 2016).

Right now Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) take up only 4% of the world’s oceans many being poorly managed or not looked after at all. Why do we need to expand?

1. Help maintain biodiversity and provide safe homes for many endangered animals and species that are targeted for commercial fishing
2. Work to protect habitats and ecosystem from harmful fishing practices
3. Allow fish to live and reproduce without being disturbed.
