End the slave trade in Libya

The Issue

Since 2017, there has been limited exposure to the atrocities occurring in Libya. For some time now, Libya has conducted illegal slave trades that have targeted African migrants from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, etc. These innocent refugees were solely seeking asylum because of the tribal injustice, persecution, and economic issues they have endured within their countries. As they migrated towards Libya, they enlisted the services of smugglers for migration purposes, which resulted in the illegal capturing and exploitation in Libya.
These innocent refugees are sold, traded, forced into labor, and held for ransom as if their human identity does not exist. Women are coerced into marriage, sexually assaulted, and raped by these inhumane “slave” owners. These traffickers are profiting off human life by selling an individual for $400 or less and demanding money from the families of refugees, all while our innocent brothers and sisters are held against their will. Unfortunately, many have died, and thousands will die without our help. We must advocate for the voiceless and bring attention to this atrocity.
Despite the harrowing evidence, the United Nations remains complicit and chooses to disregard Libya’s slave trade. As an intergovernmental organization, the United Nations yields the power to resolve international conflict, and yet they have failed. I am urging you all to act now by signing this petition, sharing on all social platforms, and calling the UNITED NATIONS to end the slave trade in Libya. SLAVERY IS A HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION and we must do our due diligence to exploit Libya and demand justice for our innocent brothers and sisters.
Reminder, Black Lives cannot matter if we don’t include ALL BLACK LIVES.
