NPR issued a report today addressing Turkish President Erdogan's official statement to Parliament. "Turkish security officials say a 15-member team traveled from Saudi Arabia to Turkey just before Khashoggi, a U.S. resident, disappeared at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2. In his speech to Turkey's parliament, Erdogan said the teams arrived in separate groups — two sets of three people and one group of nine."
"Erdogan also laid out what he called a series of troubling questions" which include:
- No body. Where is Jamal Khashoggi's body?
- Who is the 'local collaborator' to whom Saudis claim they turned the body over to?
- Why did the Saudis claim for two weeks Khashoggi left the consulate alive?
- Who is the fake body double in the video footage dressed up to look like Khashoggi with a fake beard?
- What are the actual details revolving around Mr. Khashoggi's murder, mutilation and death by 'chokehold?'
While the rest of the world is asking what happened to a beloved journalist, father, friend, the Saudi nation is throwing a big party, 'Davos in the Desert.' According to the coverage in a Financial Times piece, Prince Mohammed bin Salman left the event shortly after 20 minutes. A comment was made in reference to Khashoggi's murder followed by applause.
The US has still not taken a clear stand on the brutal murder. President Trump vacillates hour to hour from enthusiastic support of M.B.S. and the Saudis to his common mantra, 'we'll have to wait and see.'
A Washington Post article calls Trump's behavior a sign of weakness, and rightly so. For someone who surrounds himself with generals and who expresses his admiration for tyrannical rulers, this public display portrays Trump as a yellow loudmouth coward rather than the strong leader he desperately claims to be at his rallies.
The son-in-law and close friend of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Jared Kushner, appeared on CNN yesterday, yet this viewer was still left in the dark regarding truthful details about the murder.
Secretary Treasurer Steve Mnuchin flew to Saudi for a smiling photo op with the prince on Monday.
"The information and evidences uncovered so far show that Jamal Khashoggi was brutally murdered," Erdogan said. "Covering up such a brutal act would wound the conscience of all mankind."
Thank you for signing this petition. Please take a moment and commit to sharing with five friends. With enough signatures, we hope the United Nations will begin a thorough and legitimate investigation into the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. He deserves more than a smattering of applause from the country who took his life.
