Call for International Investigation into the disastrous explosion of Beirut on Aug 04,20

The Issue

A disastrous explosion struck the Port of Beirut, resulting in more than 140 deaths and other casualties; about three hundred thousand people were displaced and Beirut Urban landscape was changed.  The explosion is recorded to be one of the strongest of all time.  It resulted in damages that cost billions of dollars in terms of reconstruction and has caused human loses that can’t be restored.  This comes at a time when Lebanon is suffering financial and socio-economic crisis never foreseen before.

We ask you for the following:

1-      Establishing an international investigation committee with all the technical know-hows that is able to detail all information related to the explosion; from the moment the ammonium nitrate shipment arrived in the Port of Beirut until the explosion, and unveil all those proven to be guilty or silent accomplices.

2-      A realistic, professional, transparent investigation which will look into the causes of the explosion with an attainable time frame that uncovers the true causes of the explosion and assign responsibility for that.

3-      A transparent aid for the victims of the explosion.

4-      A valid and transparent report showing the casualties in terms of property damages and loses.

This comes at a time where the Lebanese political, administrative and judicial systems have proven unable in the past to satisfactorily conduct and resolve the substantial majority of investigations relating to the assassination of political leaders and journalists, thus providing that this system is fragile and unable to provide the Lebanese community with the truth and hold accountable those proven guilty.

The people of Lebanon have suffered greatly from a sequence of unfortunate events; thus the need for aid from the International Community to alleviate their pain and suffering.
