Assyrians are indigenous to Northern Iraq, Southeastern Turkey, Northeastern Syria and Northwestern Iran.

With a rich ancient history, the first civilisation to adopt Christianity, the Assyrian people have been subject to countless genocides and massacres, resulting in a globally scattered population of approximately two million. Assyrian people are still facing persecution to this day, at a high risk of extinction as their homeland is occupied.

Now an ethnic and religious minority in their own homeland, Assyrians need autonomy in the Nineveh Plains of Iraq (highest % of Assyrian people in the homeland) to stand a chance of having the right to self-govern, freedom to practice their faith and to be free from oppression, which are basic human rights. With this last chance, Assyrians will be able to maintain their ancient language, religion and culture.
