Improve the success rate fo risk financing (RSK 4803) students

The Issue

We wish to make a formal complaint about the study material, the answers to written assignments and general student support for RSK 4803 course

We already took the initial steps to resolve this on a case by case level by speaking/writing to the lecturer. This has been done through the various disputes in assignments marks.

However up to this point there has been a failure to provide a satisfactory outcome or resolve the problem and so we are taking the action to raise our concerns formally. Below we have outlined our complaints:

  • Written assignment marking is unfair, particularly assignment 4
  • There is not enough support for students to understand what is required from them
  • The lecturer takes time to respond to students questions
  • There are conflicting messages from the lecturer about the how to go about the assignment or which sources to use to answer questions
  • Students failure to complete the module timeously due to lack of appropriate support structures.

The resolutions that we feel are fair and appropriate, and will amend the issues are:

  •  A complete memo of assignment 4. This should include all the answers and not references to pages in the study material. This should be a typical answer a student is expected to give complete with required references.
  • All assignments must have a complete memo. Reasoning for answers must be given
  • All students with grievances should be addressed as soon as possible. Especially those relating to assignments. Assignments are an integral part of the learning system and thus appropriate support is required.
  • Turnaround times to answer students’ queries should be better, no longer than 3 days.
  • Clear up confusing/conflicting messages as soon as possible.
  • Marking should be fair and consistent. You can't have students receiving different mark allocation for similar and sometimes exact answers.

Ultimately we are writing this letter with the hope that our complaint about students’ support that enables learning, competency, fair marking treatment will be resolved.
