Unify the name of our state to Paschim Bongo
The Issue
I Captain B. Parthosarothy proudly Sanatan Bengali by profession an Aviator & Environmentalist , belong to the culturally rich state of Paschim Bongo, known in English as West Bengal, part of India. Our history is deeply intertwined with the struggles and triumphs of our ancestors, particularly during the momentous events around the Partition during India’s independence in 1947. This historical division left us with a unique identity - the Bengal that flourished was split, leaving us in the western part called PASCHIM BONGO ( পশ্চিমবঙ্গ), or West Bengal as known internationally, while the eastern part became East Pakistan, eventually liberated as Bangladesh during 1971 under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with the extended militry, political & logistic support from India.
We, the Bengali community, are proud of our heritage and cultural legacy. Today, about 90% of us Bengalis reside in what is called West Bengal, but a linguistic inconsistency continues to persist that divides how we identify our state. The name "West Bengal" in English doesn’t reflect the true essence of our beloved "Paschim Bongo." This linguistic discrepancy echoes the past divisions and shapes perceptions about our identity in subtle but significant ways.
The name "PASCHIM BONGO " resonates profoundly with us. It is not merely a name but a testament to our rich linguistic and cultural identity. The duality of having different names in different languages symbolizes a disconnect that doesn’t represent the unity and singular identity of billion numbers Bengali people.
Paschim Bongo State of India having one & only Geopolitical position where 4 countries having proximity of international boundary here. It's time to unify the identity of our state with a single name that resonates with our pride, tradition, and history. On the eve of 20th June I propose to the government of West Bengal and Government of India about our beloved state to officially adopt "PASCHIM BONGO" as the sole name, both nationally and internationally as well as update the status with ICAO, IATA & UN secretariat. This change is not just about nomenclature but about an assertion of identity and cultural pride for over 11 crore Bengalis.
Let us come together to make this change for ourselves and for future generations, so they can inherit a state that stands united in name and spirit. Sign this petition to urge the government of West Bengal to embrace the name "Paschim Bongo" officially, reflecting our unity and cultural significance in every sphere.
