Un-retire Ron Francis’ #10 jersey
The Issue
Growing up as a proud fan of the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, nothing made me prouder than donning our team's colors and cheering in unison with fellow fans, supporting players who truly represented the spirit of our community. However, recent actions have cast a shadow over these cherished memories, particularly actions associated with Ron Francis, whose number 10 jersey hangs retired in honor. His personal vendetta against Rod Brind’Amour—a respected and beloved figure in Raleigh—has left many of us fans deeply disheartened.
Rod Brind’Amour, who led us to our first-ever Stanley Cup in 2006, embodies the true heart and dedication of our team and community. Yet, it seems Ron Francis, who was once revered, can no longer embody the values and integrity we hold dear. With public statements and behavior that appear disrespectful and adversarial towards Brind’Amour, it's become difficult for us as a community to continue to honor Francis with such a sacred position in our franchise's history.
Retiring a jersey is the highest form of respect a team can afford a player, symbolizing their positive contribution to the organization and to sport as a whole. While we acknowledge Ron Francis' on-ice contributions, a retired number must also reflect character and current behavior aligning with our team’s values. Unfortunately, Ron Francis’ ongoing actions directly contradict this.
We acknowledge the complexity and significance of un-retiring a player’s jersey, but as passionate fans who strive to uphold our team’s honor, we must raise our voices. This is not a decision made lightly, and it reflects the discourse and discomfort shared by many loyal supporters of the Carolina Hurricanes.
By un-retiring the jersey, we make a clear statement that representing our team requires integrity, respect, and alignment with our community values both during and after one's playing career.
Stand with us in sending a message to the management of the Carolina Hurricanes. Sign this petition to encourage them to un-retire Ron Francis’ #10 from the rafters. Let’s preserve the legacy of respect and unity that makes our team and community strong. Signing this petition represents a commitment to emphasizing the ethos of respect and true sportsmanship in our beloved sport.
