Well it’s the big day! After months of campaigning, it’s almost time to give 284,000 messages to Nestle’s CEO.
Sadly, Coronavirus means we can’t have a big hand-in to show Nestle we’re still standing with farmers. But we can do it online - I’d love it if you could join me in sharing this message on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
Fair Trade Yorkshire have tweeted out this message this morning – if you’re on Twitter please retweet it to show Nestle we won’t let farmers be silenced. Please also share any posters you’ve put up in your window – you can email joanna@fairtradeyork,com if you’re not on social media.
We’re also asking supporters to change their Facebook cover photo using our graphic to say "I Stand With Farmers” for just one day, or longer if you like!

We’ve also taken some of your fantastic comments and created a video featuring Fairtrade campaigners from around the country.
Please watch and share it here, and really make your views heard.

I’m really pleased this petition’s had so much support. But at the end of the day, this is a really disappointing moment for farmers. As the final KitKats using Fairtrade cocoa roll off the production line, they are losing the protections and power of Fairtrade.
Nestle made this decision without meaningfully consulting farmers - they thought as a powerful company they could ignore the wishes of the farmers whose hard work make them millions every year.
That’s why it’s our responsibility to choose to buy from companies who treat farmers and workers with respect. It’s one small way we can address that huge, unfair power imbalance.
And at least thanks to our campaigning, Nestle did agree to meet again with affected farmers and the Ivorian Fair Trade Network (RICE). We don’t know what will happen with that yet, but they know the public will be watching them like a hawk.
Thanks again for all your support – I know it means a lot to the farmers involved and I know we’ll all keep choosing Fairtrade in future.
