To get free animal care for those in forced isolation through Covid 19

The Issue

Currently 1.5 million uk residents are being put Ito compulsory isolation through their health status and risks from Covid 19. Many will be in situation where they have companion animals or even others such as sheep, horses etc at other places. They are not allowed to leave their house and if have no friends or family locally may not be able to make arrangements to walk pets or attend other animals. This means that there will be severe animal welfare and human mental health implications. To remove this requires government potentially working with national and local animal charities and businesses to pay for dog walkers, animal carers for the duration of any compulsory isolation. It would require proper procedures to enable identification of the people needing this help and those competent and available to give that help. There would also need to be a mechanism to enable reasonable and prompt payment for services. I have already seen several social media posts with people pleading for help with their pets  and horses who they cannot now attend as must not go out for 12 weeks. Some are contemplating euthanasia for their beloved companions and are so stressed that it will likely lead to long term mental health issues. At the time when we are forcing them to isolate sometimes the only friend they have is their pet. This simple act of kindness from government could save animal lives and inevitably human ones as well. These may be the only friends they have.
