Stop the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture before antibiotic resistance takes over

Not just throughout the UK, but throughout the world, antibiotics are being used in animal agriculture to treat bacterial diseases that animals like pigs, chickens, cows and sheep are infected with. Unfortunately, the overuse of them is causing widespread antibacterial resistance internationally.
According to the World Health Organisation, antibiotic/antimicrobial resistance 'is now a major threat to public health'. The biggest reason for this is the overuse of antibiotics in both humans and animals, but more so in animals.
For example, a last resort antibiotic classed as a polymyxin, called Colistin, is used in the NHS when all other antibiotics fail. However, within the farming industry, Colistin is used widely to treat animals without a second thought. This antibiotic is key to human survival, since it has been proven to be so effective. However, with not only overuse, but also misuse of Colistin in the farming industry, bacteria are rapidly becoming resistant to it. Misuse of other antibiotics previously, mean that Colistin is needed to treat the animals. However, since Colistin is such a vital drug, overuse in animal agriculture industry means that fewer and fewer antibiotics are available for use on ill humans and animals. There have even been cases of antibiotics like Colistin being use to prevent infection before an animal develops an illness.
Stopping the use of antibiotics in meat, dairy and egg production is key, because it will significantly decrease the rate at which antibiotic resistance occurs. Countries like China who began using Colistin around 2007-08 have now made the decision to ban the use of it in animal feeding after, they along with 30 other countries or regions have found there to be Colistin resistant bacteria. One of the most worrying resistances is that strains of E. Coli have been found to be resistant to Colistin. It has been predicted that with the current rate of resistance, by 2050, one person will die every three seconds from a basic infection that will no longer be able to be treated.
This is not something that solely affects me, my family, my village, or even my country. It is a worldwide problem that MUST be stopped.
Firstly, I would like to attempt to ban the use of Colistin in animal agriculture in the UK, and then all antibiotics. However, this needs to be stopped all over the world.
To do so, there are two ways:
1. Sign this petition! We will get this information to reach the government, and show them that the only way to halt this huge dilemma is to ban antibiotics.
2. Significantly reduce or eliminate the consumption of meat, dairy and eggs in your diet. The less animal products in demand from the public, the less that will be produced, therefore less antibiotics will be (over)used. If you want information on how to go about changing your diet, go to https://veganuary.com/ There are many more reasons to move away from meat, dairy and eggs; this one is certainly as important as any.
Thank you for taking the time to read this petition. I hope this information resonated with you and that you have chosen to change your lifestyle a little.
Thank you again.
