Full Pay For First Two Weeks Paternity Leave

Full Pay For First Two Weeks Paternity Leave
The Issue
As a newly expectant father myself I find the prospect of Paternity pay terrifying. As expectant's me and my wife can't wait to have our child however when it comes to money I'm forced as a father to choose between having two weeks paternity leave at a third of my usual salary or having to forego my Paternity leave in order to keep providing for my family.
Father's should be entitled to that two weeks Paternity leave fully paid and the government should make it law that we are entitled to this little sliver of precious time with our new family before having to head back to work rather than having to miss the most precious first weeks with our newborn's when the bonding process is most crucial and our partner's need the most support.
I propose that father's are entitled to that first two weeks of Paternity leave at their full wage or 90% at the minimum. This means more fathers will take Paternity leave and help mothers with the strains faced after childbirth. Missing out on this bonding time because you can't miss out on the salary means less bonding time with our newborn, less support for the mother's and ultimately a less stable family arrangement that can lead to resentment against mother's for being able to spend time with their newborn and a lack of emotional attachment for father's with their newborn.
