I love taking my poodle Mitzi on holiday to France.  She is part of my family . Kennels is no holiday for her.   She had a EU passport.  It was easy and the passport lasted several years but the EU passport is no longer a valid document and it is now a very long complicated and expensive exercise to take  your Pet .  

My understanding of the current DEFRA rules that as well as rabies injections your beloved Pet needs a complicated ANIMAL CERTIFICATE extending to a bureaucratic 12 pages .  This form is hated by VETs and takes over 1 hour to complete.  It Costs around £175.00 is valid for only FOUR months and allows only ONE EXIT from and ONE ENTRY  to the UK.  

This is a very expensive and time consuming for all concerned and is especially draconian if you want to take your Pet abroad frequently.

I have just gone through the ANIMAL CERTIFICATE route with the help of my VET. He reiterated time and again that he has sick animals to treat and how this form ( which took him 1 hour 30 minutes to complete ) was preventing him from doing his day job.  I have read the certificate and  I can make little sense of it.  I have my fingers crossed that everything is OK.

What we need is a simple British Pet Passport equivalent to the previous EU passport .  This passport should be affordable and be valid for several years.
