University students in Student accommodation, including both university halls of residence, private halls of residence and student houses are currently still liable to their tenancy agreements even though there is no physical teaching or in many cases no university facilities such as libraries, computer suites and study rooms. They are all closed for the foreseeable future due to COVID- 19. This means any rent that is still due  (in many cases more than £2000) will still need to be paid for the rest of the academic year. 
For many students with and without student loans this means a HUGE loss, literally spending money on nothing, living back at home where they feel safest to self isolate (as the government is advising) and spending additional money here within the house hold. 
Please sign this petition and get the UK government to abolish or even reduce these fees that are due to the student accommodation services at this uncertain time for all and especially students who are already financially pushed with additionally the loss of many part time jobs in sectors such as retail, which would usually contribute to paying these accommodation fees!!
