As the photo in the link below shows birds can get caught and die because of unnecessary cruel bird deterrent spike strips on buildings.

I recently saw a poor Herring Gull dangling dead from a roof top caught by a strip of spiked bird deterrents. I felt I had to do something. That’s why I started the petition.

Birds don’t deserve to die because of these ill placed cruel bird deterrent measures. Help stop the killing of endangered birds such as the Herring Gull and other birds who simply want a place to land and thrive.

Some background

It is legal to deter birds from using a given area. There are however a number of conditions and considerations that have to be met. Importantly the operation of a deterrent must not trap, injure or kill a bird. Scaring devices or barrier deterrents must not be set so that it prevents nesting birds access to their nest. Seek advice before resorting to using deterrent measures. Simple changes to building design can help for example.

3 additional simple things you can do to help:-

Tweet this update or share the petition on Facebook etc. using the hashtags birds, Nature, NoToBirdSpikes or LetTheBirdsFly

Take a picture of a Herring Gull, Kittiwake, Pigeon, Starling, Jackdaw or Magpie or any other bird (perhaps on a rooftop) and post to social media with the petition link asking people to sign and share (use the same hashtags above). Add your own words saying why you think birds should not get hurt or killed by bird deterrents.

Leave comments on how you think we can stop this cruelty.

Let’s help ensure birds do not get more endangered and can continue to thrive on this amazingly beautiful planet of ours!
