Dear supporters,
In light of last night’s United Conservative Party (UCP) leadership election, we want to provide an update and plan for our petition moving forward.
To begin, we want to extend to Danielle Smith - the UCP’s new leader and Alberta’s new premier - our congratulations. Without question, Alberta faces many challenges, including the disability worker crisis, and Premier Smith will have to tackle them head-on if her premiership is to be successful and long-lasting.
As many of you know, members of our petition have met with leaders from across the political spectrum, including now-Premier Smith, to educate them about the crisis facing disability workers in our province; many have been incredibly receptive to our concerns and proposals. So while we hope that the new government will increase the wages of disability workers, we will continue working to ensure that our cause is a top petition issue in the April General Election.
With this in mind, our petition and its more than 15,000 supporters are open to working with - and even endorsing - candidates and/or parties that concretely promise to support our cause.
In closing, we want to reiterate that none of this petition’s success would be possible without you, our tireless supporters. We urge you to help us continue to keep up the momentum by sharing our petition with family and friends. Together, we can address the cost of living crisis amongst disability support workers.
