Response to Honourable Jason Luan’s letter

Dear Honourable Jason Luan,

Thank you for your response to my email that was sent in February of this year.

I appreciate your time and acknowledging that the Disability Sector is in a crisis and needs much more support from the provincial government. In my last email, I addressed issues such as the cost of inflation, the emotional burn out the CSW's are facing at this time, how shortage of workers are now being a real problem in this sector.

Honorable Luan your commitment investing in the sector and looking for a long-term approach has not resolved the issues at hand; theres not much time left until your next budget is set out, I am  asking for your commitment to make a change for our sector and as Disability Workers. 

In respect to highlighting the Critical Workers Benefit, the Federal Government of Canada made that decision for Disability Workers were not eligible at the beginning of the pandemic when funds were being distributed, in fact we advocated to fall under the "Essential" category  and months later we received the onetime payment of $1,200. This amount was a onetime payment that simply does not justify and or compensate for a wage increase since 2014.

Mr. Luan, many of my colleagues have expressed their concerns and have written letters to you and your office. 

These personal stories were letters from community support workers sharing their concerns and their experiences working in the disability sector. 
The feedback that I have received is that your letters are a general sent letter, and does not discuss a resolution to the problem, which is an immediate 25% increase.

Mr. Luan, I have been with my company for over 7 years and I have seen workers leaving the field to find a higher paying job.  

I would like to set up a meeting with you to discuss these concerns, as well discuss how you will improve attraction and retention within the sector.
