We want a proper remake of the "Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time" game
The Issue
We have all seen the new "Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time" remake and most of us have been more or less disappointed by the graphics of the game, so with this petition I am trying to bring people together to send a signal to the Ubisoft team.
"Prince of Persia" is a long-dormant franchise and no matter how big of a fan you were, the "comeback" was underwhelming. We all love it and we all have waited for it for far too long.
The good news is that after the Ubisoft Forward event from 10th September, Ubisoft released a lot of backlash regarding the graphics of the game. It is now the most viewed and most disliked trailer.
The bad news is that Ubisoft decided to give this massive project to a team of only a little over 170 people from Prune and Mumbai which had issues with working on it since India had been hit hard by COVID-19 and offices have been closed. [1] We have to make a notice that Ubisoft Mumbai was founded in 2018, and taking into account that the game took around 2 years to be created (1 years and 8 months), this is probably on of the first projects they worked on as a team. [2]
So to conclude everything we have until now regarding the remake of one of the titles that set Ubisoft's name into stone and made Assassin's creed what it is:
- they released a trailer with a so-called "alpha footage" which dates somewhere back in June/July, that had to be ready for the first Ubisoft Forward and then released some better tuned footage (that is closer by today's standards, but can't be classified as great);
- 2 studios from one of the most affected countries in the world are working on the game;
- around 170 people have been working on it (on Assassin's Creed IV released in 2013, around 1000 people worked on it, and Assassin's Creed II had 450); [1] [3]
- Ubisoft is lying when they are talking about "there was no budget cut" taking into account the previous points and are most likely looking for a quick cash grab, taking into account there were other remakes of old games that looked amazing ("Mafia 1", for example, a game which is older than "Sands Of Time"). [4]
In the end, Ubisoft Prune and Mumbai have no fault in this, and they did an exceptional job with what was given to them. They are the true heroes of this whole that managed to get our childhood back into a form that might not be what we expected, but was everything they could. Apart from the character models (similar NPCs and character designs, in the most part, the faces), everything looks fine.
Ubisoft that even the other franchises apart from their Golden Boy (Assassin's Creed) need similar treatment, and just because the Prince was away for a decade, most of us won't support an unfinished product. The Prince made the Assassins and the Prince helped Ubisoft establish themselves and they have a moral duty to treat the fans who (helped this happen) properly.
There doesn't have to be any hate on either part, but constructive criticism is good. If the remake flops, we might never see the Prince again. The Mumbai and Prune studios will be held responsible, the higher-ups will say there is no interested in the series and we will be (even more) disappointed.
We have to support and push for Ubisoft Mumbai and Prune to have all the conditions to work on the series, but without following blindly everything the Ubisoft bosses say.
