The Issue

There needs to be an official commemoration and acknowledgement for the years of enslavement of Black people in the United States. Enslavement in this country has had lasting effects from generation to generation and it needs to be atoned. We have a Federal Holiday for the US independence from Britain. At that time Black People where still enslaved. The country needs to commemorate and celebrate the end of slavery in this nation. Taking this act will be step in the direction of reconciliation of the effects of slavery on Black people in this nation. The children of future generations will benefit from this history as a lesson to end the patterns of racism and bigotry. This will a step in the right direction. Black history is American history. We all need to own this.
