Block Jeff Sessions as attorney general

The Issue

Urgent! Contact your senator and tell, demand, beg him or her to vote against confirmation of Jeff Sessions as attorney general when he comes before the Senate. A racist, sexist, homophobic, mean-spirited person should not be allowed anywhere near that office.

A few examples: He was rejected for a federal judgeship -- by a committee of Republicans and Democrats -- in 1986 because of a history of racial insensitivity. He is only second nominee to the federal judiciary in 48 years whose nomination was killed by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Later he was one of nine senators who voted against the bipartisan Detainee Treatment Act of 2005, prohibiting "cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment" of any prisoner of the U.S. Government. He voted "yes" on a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, and "no" on adding sexual orientation to the definition of hate crimes and reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act. The list goes on.

Democrats should not be obstructionists like the GOP has been for the past eight years, but some moves must be stopped. This is one of them.
