Urgent Federal Funding for New Certified Nursing Assistants.
The Issue
The healthcare system is crumbling from high demand and short staffing. Certified nursing assistants or CNAs are the backbone of hospitals and long term care facilities. It is an entry level position where people can launch their career in healthcare. Unfortunately, the cost of training and licensure is raising. These programs are often not currently eligible for Federal Student Aid, placing the cost out of reach of many would be CNAs.
We are demanding that our federal government act quickly to fund these programs. Our goal is to get congress to appropriate $45,000,000 for training 30,000 new CNAs over the span of five years. We are also requesting that Nursing Assistant Education be added to the list of qualified programs in the Federal Pell Grant Program. We believe that this will help to alleviate the healthcare staffing crisis. Nurses, Doctors, and most importantly patients depend on CNAs. When there are more CNAs on the floor, patients get the adequate care that they so rightfully deserve.
This petition is drafted and supported by Caregivers United for Change. Upon completion of this petition, we will deliver it to the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, President of The United States, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Department of Labor.
