The past few years have proven that we're living in one of the most polarizing times in our country's history. To make matters worse, church leaders such as John Hagee, Greg Locke, Kenneth Copeland, etc., have contributed to the division by spreading their religious views to their congregations. They use their positions as leaders to influence their congregation's political views while they spread misinformation, discord, and hate. While it's every person's right to practice whichever religion they choose, separation of church and state should be maintained. It's not the job of the American taxpayer to pay for these partisan, biased opinions to be spread during church services.

Churches that allow their leaders to speak extensively on political issues that have nothing to do with the core beliefs of their respective religion should be relieved of their tax exemption status. These churches are piggybacking off of the wallets of hard-working taxpayers that may or may not share their political views. Not to mention the discomfort of members of these churches that may not share their religious leader's beliefs. This is not to say that a religious leader cannot reference a political event or politician, but rather that they should not speak extensively about something that has nothing to do with their beliefs, rather, not without contributing to the system they spend so much time criticizing/praising. 

Religious leaders should spend more time building up their communities and the people that live in them, rather than telling people how to vote.
