Call on Biden to Recognize Opposition Forces in Panjshir Valley (Rep. Waltz & Sen. Graham)
The Issue
The crisis in Afghanistan is a very complicated issue because our politicians made it one. However, the solution now that Rep. Mike Waltz and Senator Lindsey Graham suggested in a letter to POTUS is simple and straightforward. Summary of the letter to call on President Biden:
1) Recognize Ahmad Massoud (leader of the resistance against the Taliban) and Amrullah Saleh as the legitimate government representatives of Afghanistan.
2) Recognize that the Afghan Constitution is still intact, and the Afghan Taliban takeover is illegal.
3) Designate the Afghan Taliban as a Foreign Terrorist Organization
4) Publicly support Congressional efforts to stand with our friends in the Panjshir Valley who will serve as a bulwark against regional terror.
Why though? Well here's the congressman's exact words:
“These leaders chose to stay and fight for the freedoms of the Afghan people and oppose extremism. They have established a safe haven in the Panjshir Valley for Americans left behind, our allies, and those seeking freedom from Afghan Taliban rule. They will also be on the front lines in the fight against global Islamic Extremism, which will continue to plot attacks against the West in the wake of our withdrawal from the region."
As an Afghan-American desiring nothing but peace for my motherland and her people, I urge each and everyone of you to please sign this petition and let's have our voices heard. This is the only way to peace. There's no such thing as peace talks with terrorists who've conducted beheadings of women in football stadiums, rape of young children, and mass-murder of different ethnic and religious minorities within Afghanistan. The Taliban today are the same they were in the 1990's; only difference is they caught on to technology, the necessity of PR, and the importance of legitimacy. If you ask me, those adaptations for a fundamentally extremist group of terrorists is the perfect recipe for chaos and disaster as we just saw unfold under the new agreement POTUS reached with these terrorists.
PLEASE let's end the brutality now. Afghanistan, after all these decades deserves a bit of peace.
