U.S. Government & FIFA: Let FIFA Referee Omar Artan Officiate the 2026 World Cup

The Issue

FIFA international referee Omar Artan earned his place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup through years of elite training, assessment, and selection by FIFA. Now, he has been denied entry into the United States and will miss the pinnacle event of his career.

The World Cup happens once every 4 years. For referees, selection is the result of a decade of work at the highest level. Removing a qualified FIFA-listed official over entry issues hurts the tournament, the officiating team, and the principle that the World Cup is for the best in the world — regardless of nationality.

We are calling on U.S. authorities to immediately review Mr. Artan’s case and grant him entry to fulfill his FIFA duties. We also call on FIFA to use all diplomatic channels available to advocate for its selected match officials.

We ask for:
 1.  Immediate case review by U.S. Department of State and CBP
 2.  Expedited visa/waiver processing if the denial was administrative
 3.  FIFA intervention with U.S. authorities on behalf of all selected officials
 4.  Clarity on the reason for denial so it can be resolved before the tournament

The 2026 World Cup is meant to unite the world through football. “Fair play” should apply off the pitch too. Let the best referees officiate the biggest games.

Sign and share to stand with Omar Artan and sporting merit.
