Revoke Licences To Trophy Hunters To Kill Black Rhino! It's murder!

This petition had 2,638 supporters

Today I heard the sad news; US Fish & Wildlife Service has granted a license that will allow the killing of an ENDANGERED BLACK RHINO, believing that the import of two sport-hunted black rhinoceros trophies from Namibia will benefit conservation of the species. Dallas-based big game hunter Corey Knowlton bid $350,000.00 through The Dallas Safari Club Auction, ultimately allowing the kill of an endangered black rhino in Namibia. Anyone who wants to kill an endangered animal for ‘sport’ or the thrill of the kill needs a psychological evaluation not handed a gun. How can this be considered conservation? This is MURDER!! How can you put a price tag on life? On Extinction?

Rhinoceroses are an incredible prehistoric rare species of creature and being who have existed on this planet for about fifty million years, they’re literally living dinosaurs, WHICH MUST BE PROTECTED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS! And right now with numbers at their lowest EVERY SINGLE ONE MATTERS, they need us and if we don’t stand up for them then who will and when? That is why I started this petition. It’s time to stand up for endangered animals that don’t have a voice and are facing extinction due to poaching and trophy hunting threats.

$350,000.00 is a lot of money but….THE CONSOLIDATED APPROPRIATIONS ACT, 2014 (Public Law 113-76) provides $250 million to the USAID Biodiversity Program that supports efforts to prevent wildlife poaching, trafficking and to empower local communities to manage wildlife resources. An additional $55 million to the Dept. of State and USAID's efforts to combat transnational wildlife poaching and trafficking, plus a $3 million increase in funding to The US Fish & Wildlife Service to combat wildlife trafficking. Not to mention money received from organizations like The Rhino-Tiger Conservation Fund, which in 2014 received over $8 million, and that’s only one. $350,000.00 IS NOT WORTH A RHINOS LIFE! Plus there’s no proof that this money will go toward conservation efforts!

US Fish & Wildlife Service, by allowing this you’re sending a message that says, ‘For the RIGHT PRICE we’ll allow the killing of a highly endangered animal, even help!’ They suffer enough from poaching as it is so allowing someone the opportunity to legally kill one and expect it to help increase the rhino population is ludicrous! What we do to the animals we do to ourselves and with only about 5,000 Black Rhinos left and about 1,800 of them reside in Namibia where the hunting could take place, we CAN’T afford to lose even one. By signing this you can make a difference and stop the bullets from taking more rhino lives. These animals are highly endangered and no matter the amount raised the loss of one ultimately brings them one step close to extinction. I urge you to please revoke this license to kill. Utilize your power for the greater good. Do not permit hunters to destroy and murder wildlife.
