Why this petition matters

Started by Rhonda Witwer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has delayed its ruling 3 times on a petition that resistant starch helps to reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes. Today, 1 out of every 3 American adults have Prediabetes with 15-30% expected to develop Type 2 Diabetes within 5 years. Please sign this petition and tell the FDA to issue its resistant starch ruling and help to reverse Prediabetes now.

In March of 2015, a qualified health claim petition was submitted outlining numerous clinical studies demonstrating that resistant starch significantly increases insulin sensitivity and helps to reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes, especially in individuals with Prediabetes. The U.S. FDA has already delayed its decision three times. For more information, see http://www.resistantstarch.us/posts/fda-delays-decision/ The Docket ID of this petition is FDA-2015-Q-2352.

Eighty six million American adults have Prediabetes and are at high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and other major chronic diseases. The Centers for Disease Control, the American Medical Association, the YMCA and many other organizations are working diligently to elevate awareness of Prediabetes and to urge Americans to take action to reverse Prediabetes, primarily with weight loss and exercise programs.

Exercise and weight loss programs are not enough - Americans also need dietary tools to help reverse Prediabetes now in order to prevent the development of the tragic disease of Type 2 Diabetes. We urgently need credible dietary tools to help reverse this epidemic.

Awareness and utilization of all sources of resistant starch could benefit from an FDA-approved health claim – not just resistant starch sourced from corn, but also resistant starch from green bananas, beans, peas, potatoes and intact whole grains.

I am asking you to sign this petition to ask the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to issue their ruling on the health claim petition that resistant starch helps to reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes.
