Dear Supporters,
A bill was introduced in the House of Representatives to permit auxiliary flashing warning lamps.
(https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1361/text). This proposed bill was defeated. You can read an article about this here: (https://www.ccjdigital.com/maintenance/article/15825958/house-committee-defeats-trucking-safety-light-amendment)
This is a very important and critical event related to auxiliary warning lamps because it confirms that NHTSA requires all auxiliary warning lamps to be "steady burning". All those LED flashing lights on police cars, firetrucks, ambulances, and utility trucks are unlawful. Federal safety laws require the lights to be steady burning because flashing lights impair our vision, increase our reaction times, and trigger seizures, migraines, and panic.
You can demand that your city address the use of auxiliary flashing lights by requesting that your city perform the required ADA Self-Evaluation under 28 C.F.R. 35.105. This self-evaluation process requires that the city evaluate the impacts of flashing lights on individuals with disabilities and requires that the city provide opportunity for public input.
If you need assistance, please contact me.
