Dear Supporters,
On April 19, 2024, the US Department of Energy published a Final Rule on General Service Lamps and stated, "DOE researched studies and other publications to ascertain any known impacts of LED lamps on human health and has not found any evidence concluding that LED lighting used for general lighting applications directly results in adverse health effects." (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/04/19/2024-07831/energy-conservation-program-energy-conservation-standards-for-general-service-lamps).
"Not finding any evidence" is not the same as "LEDs are safe" and willfully disregarding thousands of existing studies that show that LED Visible Light radiation is hazardous to human health does not make LEDs safe.
As you may already know, the US Food and Drug Administration is the only Congressionally authorized federal agency with the authority to set performance standards for LED products. Yet, the FDA is doing nothing to collect reports of harm from exposure to LED products. Therefore, the Soft Lights Foundation is filling this void. Any individual may now submit reports of harm from LED products, including LED headlights, LED streetlights, LED billboards, LED light bulbs, and LED flashing lights. These reports of harm will become indisputable proof to the DOE, FDA, NHTSA and other federal agencies that LED products can be unsafe and must be regulated.
You may submit a particular LED incident, or describe how LEDs adversely impact your life here: (https://www.softlights.org/led-incident-submission/)
Sincerely,
Mark Baker
