“Yes, I would.” — Tyson Foods Senior Vice President Hector Gonzalez’s response during an interview in which the reporter asked if he would feel safe going into work at Tyson’s Goodlettsville, Tennessee plant, which has at least 345 cases of coronavirus and has never been shut down for even a deep cleaning. We have a hard time believing that, Mr. Gonzalez. Follow this news with the fact that the number of workers who tested positive for COVID-19 at an Iowa Tyson plant doubled on the same day that the facility opened back up after being closed for two weeks, and 25% of Tyson’s staff at a North Carolina meat plant had contracted coronavirus as of last week.

It’s all proof that Tyson’s lackluster action has continued to put its own employees and their surrounding communities at risk.

Let’s remind Tyson that it’s their duty to protect their staff, public health, and the animals in its supply chain by replying to Tyson's latest tweet using the following copy as inspiration for your own comment:
@TysonFoods I saw your SVP of US HR’s comment about how he’d feel comfortable working from your TN facility that has 345+ cases of #COVID19 and yet has never been shut down for a deep clean. All while #Tyson employees across the country continue to DIE from your inaction. Statements like this are so tone-deaf & irresponsible. Do better!

Another quick action you can take is to email Hector Gonzalez and Tyson’s Public Relations Manager Derek Burleson using the below message as an example (or clicking here)!

Subject: Insensitive statements about workers

Hello,

I saw the recent interview with Mr. Gonzalez in which he made a statement that he’d feel safe working from your Tennessee facility that is currently grappling with over 345 cases of COVID-19. By claiming this, he is silencing the thousands of workers who are publicly saying they feel unsafe going into work.

I recommend checking out www.WorkingAtTyson.com to see for yourself some of the heartbreaking quotes from your own Tyson coworkers who are being endangered every day for the sake of meat. Hopefully this will inspire some compassion in Tyson to actually take meaningful action to protect its workers, as well as the public health of the surrounding communities which Tyson has burdened by operating its facilities in.

I look forward to your response.
