Tyson Foods has just formed a new sustainability coalition—and foreshadowed a whole new range of meat alternatives in the next 12-18 months. Could the beleaguered poultry titan have finally recognized that vegan protein is key to a sustainable future? Take action: Send a quick, polite email to Tyson’s leadership urging them not to be left in the dust—and to shift to vegan protein today (see our sample below)!
This week, Tyson CEO Noel White told Yahoo Finance that plant protein is a “space that [Tyson] want[s] to fully compete in, use all the resources that are available to [it], and be a strong competitor in the marketplace.” He also said that he aims to “fully attack all of the [sustainability] issues and make meaningful change.” This statement comes right after the meat giant founded the Coalition for Global Protein, a new entity focused on paving the way for “sustainable food production.”
Yet the poultry company still doesn’t offer a single vegan option in its new “plant-based” brand, Raised & Rooted—and it continues to treat birds with egregious cruelty by breeding them for painful rapid growth. Animal Outlook’s recent investigation exposed the devastating effects of this cruel genetic manipulation for extremely fast, unnatural growth: Birds languished from a variety of illnesses and deformities, and many couldn’t walk because of debilitating leg injuries. At under two months old, these baby birds were already crippled—and trapped inside their own morbidly obese bodies.
According to CEO Noel White, Tyson already has “the infrastructure [for plant protein] in place, so it's a fairly minimal investment … to be able to scale very quickly." If that’s the case—and if Tyson is truly hoping to be a leader in global protein well into the future—where are its vegan protein offerings?
It’s clear that Tyson is beginning to take notice of the growing demand for ethical options, but refuses to sever ties with the barbaric meat industry. Birds need your voice: Tell Tyson that consumers are flocking from animal ag’s cruelty and pollution and toward sustainable vegan options. Send a quick email to Tyson’s CEO Noel White and President Dean Banks using our sample below or your own polite message.
SAMPLE EMAIL:
Dear Mr. White and Mr. Banks,
Thank you for your recent commitment to sustainable food production. However, with animal agriculture as a leading contributor to climate change, ocean dead zones, pollution, and resource scarcities, Tyson cannot be a true leader in global protein if it does not embrace the plant-powered revolution. Please shift away from cruel, unsustainable animal products and roll out fully vegan protein items for all consumers to enjoy. Thank you.
Sincerely,
