In a move that will likely rattle some cages in the mysterious world of Medigap plans and their rates, the National Retirees Legislative Newtwork (NRLN) has asked Congress to intervene on TVA retirees' behalf to free them from some very expensive  Medigap plans.

Retirees believe they were duped when they signed up for Medigap plans through a Private Medicare Exchange (PME).  The PME's plans were touted in marketing material as competitively priced and later a PME representative told retirees the plans were not available anywhere else at a lower rate.

After sign-up, retirees began realizing that their plan rates were, in some cases, 65% higher than buying through a local agent or broker.  In addition, retirees say they were not, as required by law, properly notified of their guaranteed issue rights and protections which would have made them aware of other options available at much lower costs.

As a result, TVA retirees may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)  which would allow them to cancel their high-rate plans and buy new Medigap plans at lower rates even though retirees may have serious pre-existing health conditions.

The NRLN has asked Congress to grant an SEP to TVA retirees and any other retirees across the nation that may have been deceived when they purchased these high-priced Medigap plans.

If you bought your Medigap plan from OneExchange in the fall of 2016, take the survey about your experience "Injustice To TVA Retirees" below.
