Since the Stadionweg/Olympiaweg was rerouted, we have witnessed a worrying scene, especially during rush hour in the Turnerstraat/Herculesstraat section in Amsterdam-Zuid.

• This will NOT change after the section Olympiaweg/Stadionweg is closed or the A10 construction is finished!
• This petition is written in English so it reaches more people and is started by a Dutch - Amsterdamse who has lived in this neighborhood for over 22 years.

The traffic has more than DOUBLED with cars RACING in both directions and the first accidents due to speeding have already HAPPENED! 
Additionally drivers have become aggressive as they are now, during rush hour seven days a week, stand bumper to bumper in the Turnerstraat / Herculesstraat - including in several surrounding streets such as the Stadionweg and Marathonweg.

On a workday morning and evening and in the weekend, it now takes 30 - 60 minutes to drive from the Parnassusweg to the Zeilstraat or from the Olympic Stadium to the Zeilstraat. The traffic jams have now reached 4 - 5kms!

Parents and children, frightened by the speeding cars, are forced to stop or dismount from their bicycles which are now riding on the pavements. This is a result of traffic diversions and accidents from the now under-reconstruction Stadionweg route.

Despite the narrowness of the section Turnerstraat/Herculesstraat, drivers are using our street as a detour, rushing through in a race against time and residents are unable to leave their parking spaces as traffic is racing from both sides of the street.
This is more than just a personal observation, it is a dangerous escalation!

Children, parents, and car owners trying to leave their homes (for school or work) are in dangerous conditions daily. With our streets now turned into high-speed detours, the risk of accidents will be doubled.

We understand that roadworks and diversions are necessary but should not come at the cost of our or anyones safety. Therefore, we call for a change! 
We call upon our local Amsterdam-Zuid municipality to enforce SPEEDING CAMERA's or SPEED BUMPS or a ONE WAY STREET in the Turnerstraat / Herculesstraat section, including police controls.

We must take efficient measures to make our streets safer for everyone!
