Hold Turkish Airlines Accountable for Danny's missing desktop computer

The Issue

Another wo/man's agony is hers/his to bear, but a conscious mind does not turn a blind eye to the sufferings of others. That is called empathy! The very essence of humanity!

My name is Daniel Bizumuremyi; for the past five years I was living in MA doing my undergrad degree. I need your help in holding Turkish Airlines accountable for my missing desktop computer and hopefully help them improve their African operations.

On December 16 I flew from Boston's Logan International Airport to Kigali, Rwanda; my home country. As I was checking in at Logan Intl airport, I had extra luggages that I was prepared to pay for. The officer at the counter said to me that they will have to charge me double for my 50inch 4k TV and my 27inch iMac Desktop computer. And since both were huge boxes that they will need to be checked in. Which I understood since there is no way either of those would have counted as a carry on. I did as instructed ended up paying more in fees, which I didn't complain about as I was moving all my life back to Rwanda.

To my shock, my desktop computer did not show up at the carousel at Kigali International Airport. All four other bags made it included my 50inch TV except my iMac. I then talked to the Lost and found officers and filed a claim right away. Long story short, the next few days they called me said that Turkish had over carried my computer to Turkish Uganda and that Uganda was to rush expedite it back to Kigali. The whole situation seemed sketchy as there was no concrete  confirmation that Uganda had my computer.

After a few weeks without any response from Turkish Airlines, I went to their Kigali Office to see if that would speed things up. As I was explaining my situation one of the workers went to bring their manager to hear my situation to which he replied "I don't want to talk to him". As sad as it sounds this has been the general sentiment from Turkish personnel I have interacted with. Hiding behind time and hoping things to drop off and disappear. After weeks of "investigation" I went back to Turkish's Kigali Office where I called their global customer care. That is when they finally transferred my case to the claims and compensation department.

Today I received a letter from Turkish Airlines that they were not able to recover my computer and that they will not reimburse me for it. Given that this is not my fault but Turkish's. I plead to you to sign this petition so that those who have it in their power can bring justice to this case. I have worked hard whilst in the US, sleepless nights, and owe it to the many people who have helped me. This is a two thousand computer. It is not cheap. And quire frankly, I don't think my computer was lost, I think it was stolen as its tag made it to Kigali on a different bag. Which indicated that someone had pulled it off and attached it to another bag.

Many passengers have reported same cases with Turkish Airlines. It seems that Turkish has made it a habit that lost baggages especially in their African routes, that those cases are to be ignored. The sad reality is that this is how many people are serving Africa now. Africans deserve same level of service as anybody else in the world. We do not hitch a ride we pay for our flights.

You signing this petition, is one step closer to bringing excellent service to Africa as well as restorative justice. Turkish Airlines is member of Star Alliance and they should adhere to the wider guiding principles instead of doing a disservice to Africa. Africa. We deserve better!

This petition will hopefully help me recover my computer, better yet, it will help Turkish Airlines improve their Africa operations. Build a culture of servant leadership instead of one of stealing passenger items. It is my hope that many of you will consider signing this and help create a better world of travel for africans and the world at large. Thank you!

Daniel Bizumuremyi

P.S: This is not an Ad (But if you are flying to Africa, and Rwanda fly RwandAir or KLM) two hundred bucks less can cost you two grands with Turkish.
