James Comey was just the beginning.

President Trump has made it clear: more prosecutions of his political opponents are likely. After forcing out the prosecutor who resisted charging Comey, Trump replaced them with a loyal aide—and days later, Comey was indicted. Now Trump is openly saying “there will be others,” naming people like Senator Adam Schiff, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and even private citizens like George Soros as potential targets.

This has to stop. Right now.

The Justice Department is not a personal weapon. When one president begins using federal prosecutors to go after their enemies, where does it end? What happens when the next president does it too? The risk of abuse is too great, and history shows us that once these lines are crossed, they’re hard to redraw.

We are calling on Congressional leaders and the Justice Department Inspector General to step in immediately. Investigate the circumstances behind Comey’s indictment. Review the legality of replacing an independent federal prosecutor with a political loyalist. And above all, send a clear message that this stops here.

No more indictments driven by revenge. No more political purges dressed up as justice.
