During the government shutdown, billions in federal funding for infrastructure, transit, and public services in Democratic-led states was paused.

Now, President Donald Trump says it won’t be coming back — even after the shutdown ends.

At a recent White House event, Trump told Republican senators:

“They’re not going to get it back… They may not get a lot of things back.”

That includes a $20 billion infrastructure project in New York, and potentially dozens more across states like California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and others with Democratic leadership.

This is political retaliation — not responsible governance.

Public funds are not personal favors. Taxpayers in every state contribute to the federal budget. Withholding funding from entire communities based on how they vote is not just unfair — it’s undemocratic.

We demand President Trump and the Office of Management and Budget to restore all paused federal funds;

Congress to investigate politically motivated budget manipulation;

Governors and state attorneys general to demand equal treatment — and sue, if necessary — to recover what’s owed to their residents.
 

No president should be allowed to punish states for their politics. These projects create jobs, improve transit, and save lives. They don’t belong to any party — they belong to the people.
