Stop turtle trade in markets of Agartala

The Issue

India is home to 29 species of tortoise and freshwater turtles. Unfortunately around 80%(23 species) of these species are threatened with extinction. All the turtle occurring in India are protected under Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Some of which, such as Indian Flapshell turtle, Peacock Softshell are under Schedule I of Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 (Bengal Tiger is also a Schedule I species).  Both Indian Flapshell turtle, Peacock Softshell is provided with highest legal protection but unfortunately, these are the main species openly traded in fish markets of Agartala (Golbazar and Bottala Bazar). This should stop, and we need your support. Selling will stop if buying stops!
