I can't thank you enough for your incredible support of our local community nurses! Featured in local, national, and international news stories, our nurses have spent four long days in the cold - fighting for fair working conditions, increased patient safety, and better benefits. The support of all of you in the community has been incredibly uplifting for them!
A huge thank you to all of the local community members who have donated food, beverages, and time to help support the nurses. I can't express how much it has meant to the nurses to see this support for them.
Some questions have been asked about why the nurses are striking for five days when they were initially supposed to strike for two. The truth is that the hospital has chosen to lock out the nurses for an additional three days. Instead of offering a two-day contract to the agency nurses, they chose to offer a five-day contract - wasting money that could have been used to better the conditions at the hospital. They are claiming that "it takes time" to safely return the St. Mary nurses to work. In reality, it will take no time at all. St. Mary nurses could have been returned to work as planned Thursday morning. The hospital chose not to let that happen.
Tomorrow is the last day that the nurses will be locked out from returning to work, and they will be on the picket line bright and early. Please continue to show your support by sharing this petition far and wide to make it clear to the administrators in Livonia Michigan that we will not stand for the mistreatment of our local community! Here is our call to action: Trinity Health - BARGAIN WITH OUR NURSES AND TREAT THEM FAIRLY. We DEMAND that our community be cared for SAFELY. As a Catholic hospital, put your faith where your mouth is and ACT by the principles you claim to portray.
