A Trinity student campaign aiming for a reduction in unnecessary use of paper on campus.
The Issue
Being on Trinity campus, it is hard to ignore all the ways in which we unnecessarily use paper. But what is even worse is how we treat the waste. Recyclable waste is not always recycled as it is contaminated. In the last year, the amount of waste per person on campus has increased by 4%. Trinity has forgotten that there are three R's. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Recycling should be our last option. Paper Free TCD wants to see a massive reduction in the use of paper in Trinity in order to reduce the waste we produce.
According to Trinity’s Sustainability Report 2017, Trinity's target is a 10% reduction in waste generated by 2020. This goal can be reached, especially with Paper Free TCD's main goals; a 75% reduction in newspaper hard copy production, an elimination of leaflets and flyers for the Students' Union elections, a complete removal of hard copy assignments, an introduction of digital society cards and to provide paper-only bins at Fresher’s Week stands. Once these goals have been achieved, with the help of those who sign this petition, we will take Trinity one step closer to being sustainable.
