Tribute Match For Sol Bamba

The Issue

Sol Bamba will always be a legend of Cardiff City Football Club.

On Saturday 31st August 2024, it was announced that our former captain Sol Bamba had died in Türkiye from Non-Hodgkinson's Lymphoma at the age of 39.

Sol was a fantastic player on the pitch and a gentleman off the pitch, he always had time for the fans and the love he received he gave back.  He always gave 100% to the cause and his loss has been felt within the club and with fans around the world.

You only have to read the glowing tributes and kind words from players who played alongside him, or managers like Neil Warnock, to see how highly he was held in regard both as a footballer and a gentleman;  former Cardiff striker Andy Campbell called Sol "a genuinely gorgeous human being" and Ipswich Town's Sam Morsy commented that Sol was "an incredible human one of the best I've shared a dressing room with, at the start of his coaching career."

That is why I believe it's only right that we remember Sol via a tribute match which could (and should) be played in his memory and honour.

The match could take place on Wednesday 9th October, during the International Break, with proceeds going to causes which Sol supported, including Blood Cancer charities, with the winners being awarded the inaugural 'Sol Bamba Memorial Trophy'.

The opponents for this tribute match could be Trabzonspor, one of Sol's former clubs and also a club which Erol Bulut also played for during his playing career.

Let's give Sol the send off he deserves - forever a Bluebird, forever one of us!
