Dear High Altitude Owners and Management,

We, the climbing community of North Lake Tahoe, are writing to you regarding High Altitude Fitness (HAF).

High Altitude Fitness, in Truckee, is a wonderful facility that has quickly become a centerpoint of our lives here. We really appreciate the large modern space, wide range of equipment and multitude of classes offered. We come to HAF often and are grateful to have it in our town.

HAF being such a natural focal point of our community comes with many opportunities. We are excited for future events where we can meet other people, support diversity in the community and foster mentorship. We hope that HAF is open to participating in ongoing deeper engagement in making Truckee a great place to be a climber, and welcome any collaboration from management.

Many members of our community naturally pursue work in the climbing industry, and many have worked at HAF. We have unfortunately encountered numerous instances of those staff having negative experiences in their employment, then later being banned from the facility. As a small close-knit community it is especially hard having our members banned from a facility so central to climbing life in this mountain town.

We ask that HAF management find ways to work with their staff that provide positive outcomes for both sides, accepting the transitory nature of passion-focussed hourly workers. We know that many staff highly value HAF facilities and being part of an athletic community, and they truly wish for an amicable working relationship. As collective members, we have been part of many gyms that have successfully provided high-quality employment. Furthermore, we firmly believe that the synergies of strong relationships with staff past and current will boost retention, morale and the community’s regard of HAF.

We thank you for reading our letter and continuing to provide to our community,

The undersigned.
