UK Government: Place pressure on Train companies to freeze ticket costs & improve services
The Issue
This is a call for the UK government to take on UK Train companies and demand a review of business operations and provide an accessible and efficient service.
Last year Trade Union Congress revealed that rail fares rocketed by 25% over the last five years and that ticket prices are now rising three times faster than wages and do not represent the level of service experienced.
Since privatisation rail prices have increased year on year with no marked improvement of service. The current rail prices are extortionate and illogical- people expected to pay increased peak-time prices to find lack of seating, dirty trains, overcrowding, limited services & recurrent, lengthy delays.
Our system is the worst in Europe, represents poor value for money, subject to strike-action, does nothing to encourage use of public transport in place of cars and offers little customer service and respect- this can be seen in the refund options when customers face delays, cancellations and the extortionate peak time price hike.
The Government need to mirror actions taken with Energy Giants to address the failures and shortcomings of the Rail companies if they are unwilling to return the Rail to the public sector and restore faith in public transport and meet basic services standards.
