A quick up-date: First thing today, I emailed an outline of yesterday's meeting with TFL Commissioner Andy Byford to the key people in a position of relevant power at the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC). I have been assured that these council officers and lead cabinet councillors are ready and willing to work with TFL as a matter of urgency.
I have insisted that I am kept in the loop on all matters. Subsequently, I have been invited by RBKC to attend all necessary future meetings relating to the Battersea Bridge situation. We may well set up a steering committee specific to the tasks in hand to keep track of everything.
TFL and RBKC are now discussing how to move forward. The next stage is to bring traffic control experts at both organisations together to develop detailed ideas and research to find out what can be done and how long it might take.
As much as everyone who has supported this campaign wants immediate action, I concur with something Mr Byford said yesterday. Things cannot move so quickly that something is implemented that leads to "unintentional consequences". Whatever is agreed, must be right and able to stand the test of time. This makes total sense.
